Black Rice Vegetable Sushi Rolls (Vegan+GF)

    March 7, 2019 /

What time is it? Sushi Time! To be honest, I never acquired a taste for sushi until I was in my teens. I didn’t like the fishy taste of the seaweed and I especially didn’t like idea of raw fish, which I like even less now. Yeah, you won’t find any raw fish recipes here on the blog but the good news is that you can still make some delicious varieties of sushi with just some good old vegetables. In the past I’ve done all kinds of sushi with things like sweet potato or avocado but today I wanted to keep it really simple. As for the rice, I happened to have some…

I’m such a fan of Asian flavors you guys. If I didn’t try to keep things interesting here I’d probably just end up sharing stir-fry recipes and sushi every single day. As it is, I think I share quite a few recipes with those flavors. This recipe is one that you might be familiar. Or, maybe it’s something you’ve never heard of and it sounds super intriguing to you. I know I did when I first heard of something like this. First of all, can we just take a second to acknowledge the double standards within cultures when it comes to food. For example, who decided that pancakes and waffles are for breakfast?…

    Korean Edamame & Jicama Stir-Fry (Vegan+GF)

    July 13, 2018 /

I’ve been trying to branch out beyond my comfort zone when it comes to the produce section. There are all kinds of plants that I’ve never even tasted and have know idea how to use.   You’d think after so many years of working with food this often, I’d have tried everything. But nope, I definitely haven’t. That’s why I’ve sort of made myself this little challenge of buying something new (or at least something I’ve rarely used). We’ll see how long it takes me to reach my goal; being able to walk by all the fruits and veggies be familiar with it all. Jicama isn’t the most common veggie out there. In…

Sweet Potato & Avocado Sushi Rolls (Vegan+GF)

    July 10, 2018 /

So taco Tuesdays are great and all but what if we made sushi Tuesdays a thing?   I personally think it’s a pretty great idea, especially during the Summer. I’ve gotten a little bit spoiled by where I live right now. We’re so used to having mild, comfortable weather this time of year but the last few days have been pretty hot. On top of that there have been some challenges with our AC not working and that’s no fun. Yeah, so I’ve been trying to think of some no cook meals to prevent the house from being too hot and sushi is perfect. Now obviously the rice has to be cooked which…

Happy Fri-YAY! Wow, I know I say this all the time, but this week just flew by.   Yesterday was a pretty crazy weather day where I live. We had some sporadic thunderstorms and really heavy rains off and on. As crazy as it might sound to you if you’re not a fan, I literally LOVE storms. I grew up where we had so many Summer thunderstorms and I know they’re terrifying to a lot of people and I understand completely. It’s just, when I was a kid my family were the weirdos that would congregate on the patio just to watch the lightning and try to spy a tornado. The area I…

    Deconstructed Veggie Roll Sushi Bowls

    June 11, 2018 /

I’m pretty excited to share this one cuz, day-YUM, it was so good! So in my house it’s really easy to make everyone happy with bowl-style meals. You can get really creative and versatile with all of the ingredients and it keeps really easy too.   For me, I especially love rice bowls. Actually, I really just love any kind of grain based bowls. In fact, I realized recently that I rarely eat bread, or any form of wheat for that matter. It’s not because of a gluten allergy or anything, I just always prefer other forms of carbs. Like sweet potatoes! When I’m traveling I love getting sushi whenever I can. This…

Quick & Easy Vegan “Egg” Rolls

    May 1, 2018 /

What do you do when the craving for egg rolls hits? And what if, on top of that, you’re just not in the mood to leave the house? Just make them yourself! Besides, they’re way better that way in the first place. I think there are some foods that people assume have some secret complicated process.ย  They’re definitely one of those, but they can honestly be so simple. In the past I’ve even made them by rolling out the wrappers by hand. That was back when I was living internationally and I couldn’t find anywhere to buy wrappers. I’ll admit, that doing them from scratch is a bit time consuming when you have…
