Holiday Cookie Week #1: Snowy Butterball Cookies
So last week I did gift ideas, but this week it’s cookie time peoples! Which conveniently, cookies also make wonderful gifts too so it’s basically a win win situation all the way around. I’m starting off with one of the classics. These devious little puffs of deliciousness operate under multiple aliases but my crazy clan has always called them butterballs. You may know them as snowballs, Mexican wedding cookies, Russian tea cakes, or Italian wedding cookies, but me, I can’t seem to call them anything else. To me they’ll always be butterballs. Okay, obviously everybody and their great-aunt Ruth has a recipe for these cookies but I just really felt like I should have…

Edible Gifting Week #5: DIY Vegan Hot Cocoa Mix 4 Ways
I’m ending my series of edible holiday gifting ideas with #5, hot cocoa mixes! A cup of hot Cocoa is like the quintessential holiday drink. It’s an icon that everyone can associate with Christmas. Come on, who doesn’t love a hot cup of cocoa to sip on during the cold winter season? I’m going to assume that you all just did a little cocoa dance, or at the very least are silently cheering with me for the wonderful creation that is sweet and cozy hot cocoa. Now, if you just mentally responded to the negative, then you’d better go find someone else’s parade to rain on because cocoa and I are really having a…

Edible Gifting Week #2: 8 Homemade Spice Mixes (Vegan+GF)
I’m not sure this necessarily qualifies as a recipe but can’t we all use a little more spice in our lives? These homemade spice mixes are so easy and they make gift giving so simple. This post is all about how to make homemade spice mixes In case you missed yesterday’s post, I’m doing a week of edible gift ideas for you guys. I think everyone has at least one of those people that are impossible to buy for every year. So hopefully one ore two of these posts will help inspire you. Something that got really old really fast when we first moved here was the way that spices and herbs are…

Pecan Streusel Sweet Potato Spice Muffins
I’m kind of freaking out again…. It’s just, I woke up and realized we’re about to start the last month of the year and I’m caught in the storm of emotions that I think is familiar to most of you. I’m really excited (you don’t even know) about the holiday festivities but also a little tiny bit sad that time is speeding by so fast. Maybe that sounds crazy, but hopefully you can understand. Anyway, it’s my nephew’s first Christmas. I think I already mentioned recently but that’s a huge part of why I really want this holiday season to be special for my sister (for my nephew too, but he won’t be…

Tex Mex Chili & Cilantro Cornbread Bowls
Baby, it’s cold outside and I need to make something cozy! The past few days here have been getting pretty darn chilly, to say the least, and there’s nothing more comforting on a cold day then having a nice hot meal. As a result of the cold rainy/snowy weather, it has inspired me to come up with a new cozy recipe. I think meals like this are also great to have in mind during the holiday season as well. You know, when you can’t stomach another plate of mashed potatoes and stuffing (I honestly can’t imagine ever getting tired of that but maybe you do, lol). Regardless, it’s good to have a nice…

Madam Pomfrey’s Pumpkin Juice Smoothie (Vegan+GF)
Okay guys, nerd alert again. Sorry, I just really wanted to slip in one more recipe themed after Harry Potter before October was gone. I also thought this would be a fun and sneaky way to get some nutrition into the kids in between all of the sugary stuff I’ve been cranking out for the blog. It’s so much easier to get them to try something if it’s from a movie or book that they love. What was awesome is that they loved this. I mean, I can always count on Brock to get excited over a smoothie but this one was even packed with some real life vegetables and he still downed…

Broccoli “Cheddar” Brown Rice Risotto (Vegan+GF)
I don’t think it’s possible to not be in the mood for cozy comfort food, it doesn’t matter what time of year it is. Even with it getting into Spring here, a big one-pot dish of warm and creamy happiness is always welcome, and I know it is for all of you going into Fall. My Aunt and cousin are still here and it’s been so great having them, but also extra busy. I’m getting better at busy, but I definitely still have a lot of room for improvement. We’re all having so much fun watching my aunt experience another culture. the first day she was here she put powdered sugar in her coffee…
