Harvest Time Apple Streusel Swirl Bread

Are you craving the comforting aroma of freshly baked bread, tender sweet apples, warm cinnamon spice, and a generous layer of buttery streusel?

Harvest Time Apple Streusel Swirl Bread

There’s just something timeless about this combination — it’s one of those flavors that instantly feels like home.

It’s been ages since I’ve had store-bought apple bread, so I can’t compare directly, but judging by how quickly this loaf disappears every time I bake it, I’d say it’s a hit. I’ve made it three times in the past few weeks, and my family still can’t get enough.

No matter when or how you choose to enjoy it, I promise this apple streusel bread is worth the effort. Pour yourself a hot cup of coffee or tea, cut a thick slice, and savor every warm, cinnamon-laced bite. You won’t regret it.

Servings 8 – 10 servings

Ingredients

Bread:

  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons butter melted
  • 2 1/4 cups flour

Streusel:

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 1/4 cups flour

Apple Filling:

  • 2 small apples peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon plus more to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Dissolve the yeast in warm milk and let it sit for about 5 minutes, until bubbly. Pour into a large mixing bowl and beat in the egg and sugar. Stir in the melted butter and salt, then gradually add the flour until the dough comes together.

  2. Knead and Rise: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes. Place it in a greased bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size.

  3. Make the Streusel: While the dough is rising, make the streusel. Cream the butter and sugars together until smooth. Add the remaining streusel ingredients and mix until well combined. Set aside.

  4. Prepare the Apple Filling: Heat a medium skillet over medium heat and add the apple filling ingredients. Sauté until the apples are very tender, about 6 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

  5. Assemble the Bread: When the dough is ready, grease a standard loaf pan. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle roughly 8×14 inches. Evenly sprinkle the apple mixture over the dough, followed by half of the streusel and a light dusting of cinnamon (to taste).

Starting from one short end, roll the dough tightly into a log. Place it seam-side down in the prepared loaf pan. Crumble the remaining streusel on top. Let it rise in a warm place while the oven preheats.

  6. Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Bake the bread for 45–55 minutes, until golden brown and set in the center.

  7. Cool and Serve: Let the bread cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
